Lure of the Craft
The easy art of wanting to know
Magic around me
Magic to bind me
the one study spare of tedious glow,
Magic surround me
Magic confound me
the deeds to sing, the lore to ring,
the spells to chant, to weave, to bind
the craft of spellbind and watch from winter to spring,
the only art that all wish in kind…
The easy art of wanting to know
Magic around me
Magic to bind me
the one study spare of tedious glow,
Magic surround me
Magic confound me
the apprentice is eager,
though knowledge yet meager
no one knows thirst as the young one
the apprentice’s hunger
is beyond the limits to ponder
no one can see how quickly learning’s done…
The easy art of wanting to know
Magic around me
Magic to bind me
the one study spare of tedious glow,
Magic surround me
Magic confound me
were all that simple and desirous as the Craft,
a spell to spark illusion or weave things to last,
were it all that easy to want…
the desire of the magic
is a haunting savage
that takes control of young minds
and must be tamed…
The easy art of wanting to know
Magic around me
Magic to bind me
the one study spare of tedious glow,
Magic surround me
Magic confound me
were all learners that eager
to go out and seek Her,
Lady Magic,
to put their sorry ignorance to shame…
The easy art of wanting to know
Magic around me
Magic to bind me
the one study spare of tedious glow,
Magic surround me
Magic confound me
the devious mind,
quick to bind
the lure of lore
the scorch of wanting more,
the one book that one never sets down…
how simple to weave,
but for its smallness I grieve,
the apprentice wishes to know all!
The easy art of wanting to know
Magic around me
Magic to bind me
the one study spare of tedious glow,
Magic surround me
Magic confound me
from their strength, others shy away
former nuisances hide behind locked gates
and wait until young apprentice does pass…
what a beauty, what a song
may the Craft live long! may the journey
down its treacherous road never end…
let the strong learn fast
let the teachings last,
and let the apprentice
take wing
of Mage…
